Why Have Flood Insurance?Get a Quote
After high-visibility events like Hurricane Katrina, people understand the importance of flood insurance. Many have also realized that flood insurance is not part of their homeowners’ policy. Did you know that you have a 26% chance of facing a flood during a 30-year mortgage, and that over 25% of all flood insurance claims come from areas that are not considered high-risk?
Unfortunately, much of Florida falls within those high-risk areas for flooding, which makes coverage all the more important. The Federal Government runs a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This is why Home and Property Insurance typically doesn’t cover flooding. The government draws a Flood Hazard Boundary Map that divides the country into flood zone risk areas, and their Flood Insurance Rate Map sets the coverage and premiums for those areas.
